You are unlikely to receive 100% funding for your adventure directly from the Pain Trust. We like to see evidence that you are committed to your adventure, and that you are actively looking elsewhere for supplementary funding.
Do not despair! Here are some ideas which you may like to try:-
Grant Making Trusts - Other grant making trusts, both locally and nationally, exist to provide financial support to both groups and individuals. Your local library should be a good starting point for your research. Before deciding to apply to a specific Trust, check their award criteria carefully. It is a waste of valuable time and resources approaching a Trust which is unlikely to support your application.
Sponsorship - A number of organisations which offer you the opportunity of adventure can also advise you about possible sources of sponsorship. It may be useful to contact the organisation concerned and enquire about any sponsorship which may be available.
Bursaries - Keep an eye out in the press for any information regarding bursaries which provide cut price or free places on adventure courses.
Direct Grants - Some organisations, such as Outward Bound, Jubilee Sailing Trust, Sail Training Association and the Brathay Exploration Group can provide some financial support to individuals participating in their activities. Contact the organisation concerned for further details.
You may have other ideas that we haven’t included. One word of caution - make sure that they are legal and do not compromise your personal safety.
GOOD LUCK and remember, there are many opportunities available to you. Half of the fun is looking for them!
